I met with LHA member Jim Peters today as he makes his way across the country. He’s exploring brochure ideas for the Lincoln Highway Association. Much of his trip, though, will be along Route 66 to browse some of the brochures that have made that road such a success, and such a pleasure to tour. I made sure to show him one of my favorites — the Illinois Historic Route 66 brochure (seen at right), which features a map spread over 11 panels. (Download it HERE.)
In anticipation of the forthcoming LHA conference, pick up one of the new Indiana Lincoln Highway brochures, seen above. They feature a map of the route and info on other Lincoln-related sites in the state. If you’re too far away, you can request one from their website, or view the actual brochure online HERE.

I am trying to find directions for Pennsylvania like the ones done by Mike Buettner for Ohio. He did an amazing job making the route incredibly easy to follow and pointed out things to see along the way. (www.lincolnhighwayoh.com/westboundodometerchart.html) Anyone interested in traveling the lincoln highway through Ohio should use this guide!

Yes, his guide – online and free – is amazing. I’ve published two editions of my The Lincoln Highway: Pennsylvania Traveler’s Guide that give detailed history and directions, though not with the type maps he has. My forthcoming Lincoln Highway Companion will have medium-detailed maps for the entire route from coast-to-coast.

Brian, When will that companion be available and how can I get a copy. My fiance and I plan on taking the trip from Upper Sandusky OH to the PA/NY line on April 2,2009.

Not due out till May, sorry. But crossing PA can be fairly easy. Follow US 30 but anytime it goes around a town that means the LH branches off. So if you want to follow the LH take the old road through Greensburg, Youngstown, Ligonier, Stoystown, Bedford, McConnellsburg, York, and Lancaster. There are lots of other great old sections but those are the big ones. Lots of don’t miss plces too but four would be Lincoln Motor Court, Coffee Pot, Dunkle’s Gulf, and Shoe House.
