The Lincoln Motor Court west of Bedford, Pennsylvania, may be the last of the vintage courts still serving overnight guests along the Lincoln Highway. Denny Gibson stayed there Thursday night and wrote, “Despite looking the same from the outside, each of the cabins is just a bit different inside. I was in #6 this time and it is a bit more romantic than my previous accommodations. Note the champagne flutes and the vines near the bed. Lincoln Motor Court was built before 1945; Bob and Debbie Altizer have been taking care of it for 25 years. As you can imagine, there are many challenges to maintaining vintage cabins from painting, plumbing, and wiring to keeping the cottages comfortable. Replacing the roofs have long been a goal but that is expenesive and grants are typically for non-profits. Help preserve this rare resource by staying overnight next time you’re in Pennsylvania. And look for the Altizers and their court in the forthcoming PBS special.

We just stayed there Aug. 1st 2009 and for one night it was $66. You can’t beat that! And they are pet friendly for those who like to travel with their pets like us!

This is so cool! Thanks for posting. I’ve offered the link to my Historic Commission in West Whiteland Township. We have Ichabod’s or the Williams Deluxe Cabins, c 1937, that sit right on the Lincoln Highway, in Exton, PA.
A local developer plans to demolish the front buildings, which we would prefer he move and keep on the property (there is a flood plain that threatens them) and he plans to restore the cottages as rental units. Too bad that someone didn’t buy it to keep as a motel.

Just visited there 8/7/09. Loaded with nostalgic charm and spotless! Glass doorknobs, vintage lace curtains and bedspreads-SIX pillows on my bed and bedside plate of mints. Windowbox full of flowers, complete with friendly owner critters-cat came in to nosey around my cottage! Old fashioned tile bath w/porcelain fixtures and fabulous old wooden window. Cable TV, microwave, mini frig and coffee pot plus glass mugs. Only drawback was Route 30 is noisy even late night if you sleep light. Will find a reason to return! Owners were friendly and accommodating!
