Extra Lane to aid turns at Lincoln Heights PA

A road project in western Pennsylvania will widen eastbound and westbound lanes along the Lincoln Highway/U.S. Route 30 to create a turning lane. The Tribune Review reports that “a 1-1/2-mile stretch in Hempfield to create a center turning lane is on schedule, with the opening of construction bids in November or December…. The project, which is estimated to cost between $7 million and $12 million, has been targeted since the early 1990s, but has funding available from state and federal sources to move forward.”

The project design covers an area near Walton Tea Room Road, just west of the Toll Route 66 interchange, through Lincoln Heights to the Route 30 intersection with Possum Hollow Road and West Penn Drive, near a West Penn Power building and Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Bridge fix to close part of Lincoln Highway

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that Route 30 (Lincoln Highway) will be closed in both directions in the area of the Greensburg Pike overpass in North Versailles Township, Allegheny County, during the weekend of Aug. 27-30. Motorists will be detoured onto Greensburg Pike — the original Lincoln Highway.

The $4.5 million project will replace the bridge that carries Greensburg Pike over Route 30. The project includes removing the existing steel bridge and replacing it with a new single span composite steel multi-girder bridge. The closure will run from 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, continuously through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30. Read more HERE.

DeKalb IL Road Work Continues into 2008

An article in DeKalb’s Northern Star, produced by students at Northern Illinois University, reports that reconstruction of the Lincoln Highway downtown will continue through Summer 2008.

Work in the 100 block, including a bridge replacement and an awkward lane shift, has led to more than a dozen accidents in the past half-year. Joe Spika, construction field engineer and DeKalb County area supervisor for IDOT, said the standard merge there should present no problem: “When people obey it, everything works just fine.” The work, nearly half done, will move to the other side of the bridge by Thanksgiving and will continue through at least mid-Summer.
